Celebrating Over 65 Years Transloading US Ag Exports

L.A. Grain (also known as the Los Angeles Harbor Grain Terminal) is a third generation, family-owned operation near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The company was founded over 65 years ago and has been at its current site since 1984.

Our services include transloading and cross docking, with transloading making up the bulk of the business. L.A. Grain’s facility houses two miles of track, allowing us the capacity to store up to 75 railcars at a time. Our experienced operations team unloads hundreds of railcars per month, every month, reaching into the thousands per year.

The use of 7 separate conveyor systems makes it possible for us to handle a variety of products quickly and efficiently and we have significant dock space available to unload boxcars, trucks or flatbeds.

Our highly trained drivers and dispatchers have an average of 15 years experience hauling containers to and from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

While most product makes its way to us via rail, we do receive some truck products that originate west of the Rocky Mountains.

Why L.A. Grain?

Strategically located within the “overweight corridor”, many customers choose to have their products loaded, unloaded, and/or consolidated at our facility in order to achieve the maximum weight capacity for each container. This significantly reduces ocean freight costs as well as drayage charges both here and at the cargo’s final destination.

History

The Los Angeles Harbor Grain Terminal originated in 1958 with the founding of Mortimer & Wallace by Richard B. Mortimer and Howard L. Wallace. In the late 60’s, the advent of containerization gave rise to LAHGT’s transloading operation. The growth of this operation sparked the company’s eventual relocation to its current place of business—a facility with two miles of railroad track and the capacity to store up to 75 railcars.
